On the 185th birthday of Young’s Pubs, it only makes sense to pay homage to the big blue beacon that is The Bull. Not that I’m being biased (it may be my mum’s local, located where I was born and bred, but it was named Time Out’s Best Pub in Streatham), but as it just happens to stand out so handsomely along Streatham High Road, you’ll be glad you didn’t miss it either. Previously the Pied Bull, a modest inn for London travellers a couple years back in 1768, it’s since dropped the “Pied”, but still retains the charm that pairs with its rich history like the delicious, carefully selected wine from its eclectic list. Want a rich, spicy red? Or a mineral and complex white? Or maybe pale and delicate rose? If it’s Blossom Hill you’re after, you might have to see yourself out of their ornate doors. But then you’d miss their menu, which nobody wants to do, trust me.
You can munch like royalty in their elegant dining room, or lounge in their garden, home to the resident Burger Shack, equipped with their own kitchen, menu and heaters to allow for alfresco feasting all year round. If burgers aren’t your thing, I can’t really be friends with you, but what I can do is point you to their seasonal British menu, with a contemporary makeover. On tonight’s episode of Pimp my Pub Grub, we see the classic ham, egg and chips get upgraded to Aspall cyder cured ham hock, thick cut chips and a crispy, oozing duck egg, brought to you friendly staff and a warm, welcoming atmosphere to boot. Plus, stay tuned for a fantastic selection of real ales and craft beer, especially for Camden Shout, celebrating the kick-off into the 1st of Hoptober with free Camden Brewery beer up for grabs.
The Bull is at 498 Streatham High Road and is open until 11pm (Sunday-Thursday) and Midnight (Friday-Saturday).
